And another interesting person who lives in Chiswick is.....

…............................Elena Glurjidze!

For 15 years Elena was Lead Principal Ballerina with English National Ballet.  You can see some of her performances online.  In 2016 she left ENB  and was thinking of creating something in Chiswick, where she had lived since 2006  with her husband, Kharkhaber (who works at Disney in Hammersmith), son Alexander who is at a local school and dog Freddo (Fredddo's favourite snack:  ballet shoes.....).

Also in 2016 Elena met Olga Semenova, another ballet teacher,  while organising the first Summer Intensive Course at Sadler's Wells and together they decided to found a ballet academy (Masters of Ballet Academy) dedicated to teaching the Vaganova Method they had both learnt in Russia to promising youngsters.  Dedication is a key word for Elena....to be clear, this is not a ballet class for kids which fills  the slot on Thursday afternoon between Judo on Wednesday and French choir on Friday.

Young dancers leaving the Masters of Ballet Academy go on, at the time of writing, to White Lodge, The Royal Ballet, Central School of Ballet, Amsterdam Dance Conservatoire, Sydney Ballet Conservatoire, The Bolshoi Ballet.........AND have just been invited to perform at the Hermitage Museum in St Petersburg for a special gala!

For the second year running a team has been selected from MOBA students to represent the UK in the Dance World Cup (think Olympics for dance...and 30000 students applying from the UK).  Last year's teams from MOBA were placed 5th and 6th in their classes.

Under the auspices of The Hogarth Club and Club des Sports, MOBA now has a dedicated building on the  Club Des Sports site (previously The Park Club) with 70 children and climbing attending classes.

This summer, MOBA is delighted to announce it will be presenting 2 Live Open Air Performances on Turnham Green on Saturday 22 June.

One will be a full performance of Cipollino, a ballet choreographed by Elena and Olga for children which will premier at Sadler's Wells on February 23/24.  The second performance will be a fusion of   ballet and classical song.  Together,  Luci de Nordwall Cornish, soprano, and dancers from MOBA will perform  works including Faure, Poulenc, Handel, Cole Porter and Gershwin.  The piece  by Handel is set to “What Passions Cannot Music Quell or Raise”  choreographed by Wayne Eagling (also a resident of Chiswick) and other pieces will be choreographed by Elena.  Luci also lives in Chiswick and sang recently at the 2018 Bedford Park Festival and LoveMusic in Chiswick.

There will be reasonably priced seating available to purchase in advance as well as ample space to stand and watch while having a coffee or a drink from the bar, or perhaps you might bring a picnic!

If you would like to pre-register in order to be notified when tickets go on sale please email; tim@clubdessports.co.uk

We all know Chiswick loves a summer outdoor event......and this one is not only unique, but a local production we should welcome with open arms....
