The Addison Singers 'Wow' Vienna

Appreciative audience as they perform Mozart's Requiem Mass

The Addison Singers’ Oratorio Choir trip to Vienna last week turned out to be a massive hit with the 1500 strong audience at their performance of the Mozart Requiem at Mozart’s “own” cathedral, St. Stephen’s Cathedral.  One of the most iconic pieces of music ever written, sung in an iconic venue in an iconic city!

The four professional soloists and the orchestra were all from Vienna, so our 78 singers only had one rehearsal with them to get the sound right – and with the cathedral acoustics playing the strangest tricks, not the easiest task.

Addison Musical Director David Wordsworth said, “As many of the choir saw the queue of hundreds of people snaking around the main square I think it hit them what a challenge this was. As it turned out they did what I hoped and expected they would do and met the challenge head on. A really thrilling performance – I felt that every single person put every ounce of their energy into the performance and I do think that we came out not only feeling good but sounding good too. The sort of experience that we can only be proud of and build on. Those opening mysterious bars of the Requiem in that building and the huge enthusiasm of around 1500 people in the audience applauding not only at the end but as we walked off will surely stay with us a long time.”

A trip to remember – and now onwards and upwards to new challenges!  New members welcome.
