Old Actonians Ladies Football Results

First team book place in Cup Final

On a wet and windy afternoon last weekend, Old Actonians Ladies FC booked their place in the League Cup Final with an emphatic 4-0 win away to KIKK.

Old A’s kicked the game off in hesitant fashion, hampered by howling winds and struggling to get to grips with an energetic start by the home team. However, KIKK could only muster a few long-range attempts in this period of early domination, collected easily by Naomi Swift in goal. Slowly but surely, Old As grew into the game, ending the first half with a 1-0 lead, after Carla Williams put Natasha Cree through on goal to finish coolly from close range.

In the second half Old Actonians began to take control of the tie. It wasn't long before Williams was tripped in the box, converting the resultant penalty herself to give the visitors some breathing space. The weather deteriorated further as it began to rain, making the pitch harder and harder to play on. KIKK now went in search of goals and put Old As under some pressure for the first time in the match since their opening salvo. A few shots from outside the box sailed over the bar and a couple of corners were defended frantically, but otherwise goalkeeper Swift remained untroubled. The visitors’ defence, led by skipper Catherine Murphy, put in some cracking tackles.

The Old A attack, meanwhile, continued to threaten on the counter. Their hard work was soon rewarded with a third goal: Williams rose highest to meet a Chelsea Berlin corner with a bullet header to put the game beyond the home team. To cap the game off, Berlin put away a fourth goal late in the second half. Old Actonians are now just one win away from lifting the League Cup.
