Abundance Launches New Fruit - Picking Project

A joint initiative with Hounslow Council and volunteers from Adult Social Care

A fruit-picking project which is a collaboration of Abundance London with Hounslow’s Council's Housing Department, Lampton Facilities Maintenance 360, and the LBH Social Services Community Support (Adult Social Care) .

Hounslow Housing looks after about 6,000 trees, of which around 200-300 are fruit trees that Abundance suggested could be harvested, eaten or juiced. For this first outing they concentrated on the pear harvest.

Karen Liebreich said: "This year was a pilot project, as we need to work on the tree lists which are no longer completely up-to-date and not all trees will be suitable.

As the apple harvest completely failed in the area, they were unable to get much fruit this year. However, they plan to work on this and launch it next year properly, with a very special apple juice using all those local trees.

The day was much enjoyed by all.
