Veteran Collector Sells Film Posters at Hammersmith's 25 Blythe Road


Online auction of posters and memorabilia from 1950s to 90s

At Hammersmith's 25 Blythe Road on 9 - 11 November, film poster veteran Bruce Marchant is holding his second online auction of film posters and memorabilia.

Around 100 posters, lobby cards and production stills from the 1950s to the 1990s will be for sale, with the catalogue viewable at 25 Blythe Road.

Prices are expected to start at around £150 and go up to £5,000, with SciFi, Horror, Comedy, Drama and Romance all represented in this sale spanning 40 years and offering something to everybody’s taste.

Highlights from the 1950s include a poster advertising the well known film Rebel Without a Cause (1955).

James Dean poster for sale in online auction at 25 Blythe Road

This has a poignant association, as the movie star, James Dean, tragically died just before the film’s release. It carries an estimate of £2500 - £3500.

From a similar period, The Invasion of the Saucer Men (1957), a Horror Sci Fi Comedy movie poster depicting spine chilling aliens has an estimate of £3000 - £5000.

 

 

 


Jaws poster for sale in online auction

Later movie posters in the sale include Jaws (1975), estimated £800 - £1200 which, despite the mechanical sharks constantly breaking down during filming, is one of the great movies of the 20th century, and the first film to gross more than $100 million.

The poster displays the direct and utterly terrifying threat of the hidden shark. A Back to the Future poster, (1985) starring Michael J Fox, is estimated at £500-£800 and a framed original US lobby card of Forbidden Planet (1956) has an estimate of £300-£500.

 

 

Other posters include The Pink Panther, Star Wars, Dr No and many more. . All the posters were issued for advertising purposes at the time of the release of the film, and were never meant to be sold. Most are in very good condition.

Well known poster designers are another important focus for collectors, and this sale includes names such as Bill Gold, Reynold Brown, Bob Peak and Albert Kallis.

25 Blythe Road, founded in 2007 is a collective of highly experienced specialists, many of whom have worked at Sotheby’s. The auction house will happily sell good quality low value lots to open up the doors to all collectors, starting at £50, going up to many tens of thousands. Curators, collectors and dealers from around the world buy from the various fields of expertise.
