Church Road restaurant in Barnes served its final customer this week (18 August) but it is set to take a form which will be familiar to Putney diners.

Craig Gordon, who runs the Home SW15 restaurant is teaming up with the former general manager at Church Road, Alan Perry to open Home SW13.

The new venue is set to launch in the middle of September.

Church Road was owned by local restaurateur Rebecca Mascarenhas who is also an investor in HomeSW15 as well Flour and Water on the Lower Richmond Road.

She set up her first restaurant in Barnes, Sonny’s in 1986, which became Church Road a decade ago when she was joined by chef Phil Howard who had previously worked at the Michelin-starred restaurant, The Square.

The Home concept is understood to be a bit less formal than Church Road had been with more emphasis on brunch and Sunday roasts.

Rebecca said, “Over 38 years, Sonny’s became Sonny’s Kitchen and then Church Road, and we’ve been the favourite restaurant of generations of Barnes families and welcomed guests from music divas to movie stars and politicians. The only time I became star struck was when Placido Domingo came for lunch.”

She continued, “I’m stepping away from Church Road but I’m really happy to say that I’m passing on the torch to two brilliant young restaurateurs both of whom have worked for me for years. They’re taking the reins. It’s time for a new generation – it’s going to be their show, and their story.”

Last month HomeSW15 was included in this year’s The Good Food Guide as one of the top 100 local restaurants in the country.
