Barbeque being held during event this Saturday
Putney Sea Scouts help out at an earlier fundraiser
March 21, 2025
Enterprising young people from 5th Putney Sea Scouts are set to host a fundraising BBQ in celebration of the Head of the River Race this Saturday 22 March.
The Sea Scouts will be serving freshly-cooked barbecue food, including meat and vegetarian options, as well as homemade cakes and hot and cold drinks.
Visitors can watch the spectacular race in comfort at the Scout Hut on the Embankment as more than 320 crews join to take on the Championship course from Mortlake to Putney.
Founded in 1926, the race has been attracting audiences for almost a century to enjoy the thrilling atmosphere in the green surroundings of Putney Embankment.
Proceeds from the BBQ event will raise funds for 5th Putney Sea Scouts, both to help repair their ceiling and to raise money for future camps and Scout activities.
Flynn, Patrol Leader at 5th Putney Sea Scouts, said, "Anybody and everybody is welcome from our opening at 9:00 until 17:00.
"The Scouts will be running the stalls themselves! If you are coming along, it’s a great little spot to come in and grab a bite to eat and a nice warm drink to raise your spirits."
