A neighbour is worried planned air conditioning units in a Putney house within the Coalecroft Road conservation area will impact on their quality of life.

They have objected to the scheme to install the unit on the rear flat roof of the 19th century house in Coalecroft Road.

Making a comment on the application to Wandsworth Borough Council, the property's neighbour has stated: "I am worried that an air conditioning unit so near to me will emit noise that will disturb me and adversely impact my quality of life."

But a heritage statement issued on behalf of the applicant by surveyors BCS Partnership says a planned acoustic enclosure will reduce noise levels to "barely audible".

If the plans get the go-ahead, it will be placed on the rear of the building to "minimise visibility", according to the report.

A plant noise assessment carried out for the applicant by Enviropass says it understands Wandsworth council normally allow domestic air conditioning plants that are at least 5 decibels (dB) below the existing background noise level when 1m from the nearest noise sensitive window.

Enviropass carried out a noise survey over a four-day period from May 9-13, which determined a decibel level of 24 dB as a representative background noise level.

They claimed the dB level of the proposed unit, with an acoustic enclosure, would be 17 dB when measured at 1m from the nearest noise sensitive window. According to their report, that would be 2 dB lower than Wandsworth's requirements.

The council is seeking comments on the scheme until 29 August, which you can make by searching for planning application 2024/1993 on their planning explorer.
