Concern About Lack Social Distancing Among Putney Delivery Drivers
One biker filmed licking his hands while waiting for food order
Residents in West Putney have expressed concerns about lack of social distancing among drivers awaiting delivery jobs from Putney restaurants.
People have been raising the issue on the Putney forum since the beginning of April. One resident told this website: "Many residents of the street have been complaining to the police and council for several weeks about bikers not social distancing, blocking narrow pavements when they stand in groups, unmasked, and drive out the wrong way into the High Street, at times narrowly missing pedestrians."
On 30 April one resident posted video from their security camera on Newsflare which shows the moment a food delivery driver walks up and down the road licking his fingers and spreading his saliva and germs amid the coronavirus outbreak.
The delivery driver, who appears to be waiting for his next order to come through, touches parked cars, a lampost and railings with his hands.
The poster told Newsflare, "The delivery drivers congregate on this road waiting to take the orders, but they aren't practicing social distancing! And then we see them do this. It's disgusting, touching our railings and our cars after licking his hands, especially in the middle of a pandemic! We have reported them to the police."
The police have confirmed that the local Safer Neighbourhoods Team were informed and the male has been identified; he will be spoken by officers about this incident. Officers already include the area as part of their routine patrols and will continue to do so. Any residents with concerns should speak to them or contact the local team via 101.
