Seventy firefighters attend blaze on Montserrat Road

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus rescued a man from a flat in Putney that caught fire this Monday morning (7 December).
They entered the second floor flat via an internal staircase of the building on Montserrat Road.
The man suffered from the effects of smoke inhalation and was taken to hospital.
The whole of the flat and part of the roof was damaged by fire which took hold at around 10.20am.
A plume of smoke was visible across the Putney area during the blaze.
Ten fire engines and around 70 firefighters from Wandsworth, Fulham, Chelsea, Hammersmith, Clapham, Battersea, Richmond and West Norwood fire stations were at the scene.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
