New hotel, offices and landscaped sunken garden would replace Landmark House
Plans have been unveiled for a 28 storey tower to be built in Blacks Road in the centre of Hammersmith.
The new building would replace the 18 floor Landmark House, south of King Street and opposite St Paul's Church.
The team behind the new proposals are Eastern and Oriental, Malaysian property developer based in Kuala Lumpur, with a UK headquarters in Landmark House, architects Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners, landscape architects and urban designers Gillespies and Futurecity, who develop cultural visions for the urban realm.
They say that their designs look to reconnect with the wider town centre through substantial public realm and landscaping improvements, together with an exciting new cultural space to further enhance Hammersmith’s growing reputation as a centre for culture.
Their designs, outlined on a consultation website Landmark House Proposals include a new hotel, office space, a sunken garden and possibly a top floor restaurant or bar.
The proposals in full, listed on the site are as follows:
An opportunity to open up the site to the rest of Hammersmith with links through from King Street and the Town Centre and allowing for future links through to the River
A new hotel for Hammersmith
Office space designed for both HQs and SMEs
A landscaped sunken garden along Angel Walk
Substantial public realm at ground level
Potential for a top floor restaurant and/or bar, offering views across London
The proposals have already sparked a critical response from local councillor Harry Phibbs.
On his Hammersmith and Fulham Forum Cllr Phibbs says: " A planning application has been sent in to Hammersmith and Fulham Council to demolish Landmark House (right), the hideous 18 storey office block in Black’s Road. But before you all cheer too loudly the proposal is to replace it with something just as ugly and even taller – 28 storeys.
"If you wish to register your objection with the Council you have until February 28th. The proposal should be seen in the context of plans by the Council and the Mayor of London to clutter the skyline with appalling new tower blocks in the Hammersmith Town Centre. Yet all this would seem to be quite in line with the Labour CoTheuncil’s planning policy."

Local residents are also being invited to comment on the designs and the team say these comments will be given to the design team and, where appropriate, will help evolve the proposals before an application is submitted to Hammersmith and Fulham Council later this year.
