This survey is highly relevant for Grove Park in general. One of the major arguments for introducing a CPZ into Park & Staveley Roads was that the crowded parking and fast (rat run) traffic created an unacceptable danger for residents. This survey comprehensively dismisses this argument as it concludes there is NO problem with speeding traffic, and NO significant danger of accidents (small children and elderly people being mowed down by speeding lorries etc). This was one of TWO key arguments being used by the Park Road activists to force a CPZ into their roads (which as we all know will then lead to CPZ across the whole of Grove park). Having dismissed this one, it leaves the other which is that the Chiswick House Car park is currently filled to bursting every morning with commuters parking and walking to (er, none can work out quite where they might be walking to). When charges are introduced on December 3rd, these hundreds of commuter cars will immediately displace into Park and Staveley Road and clog it up even more, causing the deaths of even more elderly people and children (er...)We now know (as if we didn't already know) that there is no such problem with commuter parking in Chiswick House car park - it was always a nonsensical suggestion and has now been proved to be so. Thus, the two main arguments for introducing CPZ into these two roads have been completely discredited. And yet, we may all rest assured that our local councillors are still hell bent on introducing CPZ into Grove park (starting with Park and Staveley Road), regardless of the facts. The fact that >90% of residents voted AGAINST CPZ has absolutely nothing to do with it, we are going to get it anyway.

Richard: " .....I find that very worrying as the implication is that Cllr Mayne can ride roughshod over any democratically reached decision."Yes, and he has, as I pointed out at the Chiswick Area Forum in June (not actually attended by Cllr Mayne). Although his power to interfere in a specific area, after the proposal had been unanimously rejected at a local level, is not one that has been habitually used. The issue has been much debated, both locally and at Lampton Road. I put the point to Mary Harpley, CEO of Hounslow Council, that if they wanted to run the Council as does National Gov't, ie where Cabinet Members / Lead Members can do what the hell he or she likes, then they should say so, and those of us who care about local democracy will shut up.She assured me that was not the case, and indeed the previous Lead Member for Parking said (on this Forum) that he would never have done such a thing because, I quote, it's undemocratic. However, there are Council Members who have an irrational desire for CPZs regardless of context, and they support their colleague from Isleworth (though there is at least one who is similarly biased against them). The rest of us feel that the imposition of something in two of the longest roads in the area, which will probably have an affect on all the surrounding roads, should be a matter for locally-elected representatives to decide. You may also be concerned that in the actual consultation from L B of H, it said that displacement from Chiswick House car park INTO Park / Staveley will PROBABLY occur, but only that displacement FROM Park and Staveley Road into surrounding roads MAY occur. Chiswick House car park has 57 spaces (+ 3 disabled). Park Road has 217 or so current free spaces. Staveley Road (East) has approx. 67, making a total of 284.  Which do you think 'may' cause the bigger displacement?
