There are an awful lot of things that it is astounding that people who have lived here all their lives still don't seem to have grasped like setting fire to homes where people are living and sometimes just because of they took notice of rabble rousing rubbish on social media! There wouldn't be half as many problems or people in prison if these people behaved within the law.

Please do explain Janice, because I have no idea what you mean when you say this is something I always do.Unless it's simply pointing out that what you have just said doesn't stand up to scrutiny.Do you really believe that commiting violence in self defence is unjustified in any circumstances? Because that appears to be what you implied a couple of posts ago.

As I understand it foreign prisoners are more likely to get early release if there is a prospect of them be removed to their own country but there are limits to how much this can be done. For a start the receiving countries would not be happy and they might start reciprocating and sending our domestically grown criminals back to us.

No one is disputing the fact but the question is, what does it mean? The proportion of foreign prisoners is way below that of other European countries some of which are at over 50%The proportion of foreign prisoners is also below the proportion of resident non-nationals in the UK (12 vs 13.5%) so foreigners appear to be more law abiding.

When our safety is at risk we cannot live life as we knew it, you have to think about safety if you want to go out, we stop meeting of an evening years ago, to many incidents and dodgy people around, trying to take our belongings etc.

Tim, these numbers don't really help us that much unless we can be sure that they don't include arrests by Border Force for immigration offences.  You also have to take into account demographic factors such the high proportion of these ethnicities being young men.I agree that it would be helpful to have more accurate data. The Met is wary of involving itself in immigration matters because making people whose status is irregular will mean they are less willing to come forward as witnesses or report crime. The courts are under huge pressure as it is and aren't going to be interested in collecting data.Therefore we simply don't know the details of what is going on and probably never will, however alarmism on this matter appears to be based on unfounded fears. The broader picture referred to earlier by Felicity is that, despite London hosting the majority of illegal immigrants to the UK and having a very high proportion of legal immigrants, rates of serious sexual offending are lower than other parts of the country and haven't risen sharply since the big influx of new arrivals over the last decade.No NGO, charity or academic will tell you all immigration is good and it is inevitable, particularly among the 100,000s of illegal immigrants there will be some particularly nasty characters just as there would be of a similar sample size of native born English.The situation we find ourselves in is that all the immigrants or children of immigrants we know are decent, law abiding, hard working citizens making a positive contribution to society but the immigrants we read about on social media are rapists and violent criminals. The decision we need to make is whether the benefit of the former outweighs the problems caused by the latter - my view is that our economic and demographic position that this country is in means that it categorically does.

Have you really thought that statement through Janice?Britain fought in WW2 against the Axis powers.Ukraine has been fighting a war against Putin's forces.Both the above involved violence by one party against another, and surely you can't believe it's wrong to act in self defence?

You hit the nail on the head, Vanessa. If we applied the same logic to reports of police criminality as to immigrant criminality, we might arrive at the conclusion that the force is riddled with 'bad uns'. Those who associate illegal immigrants or asylum-seekers with criminality commit several logical errors (perhaps deliberately?): the anecdotal fallacy of using individual reports of immigrant crime to define many thousands of people; outgroup bias - viewing a native-born crime as an individual failure, but an immigrant crime as a group characteristic; the base-rate fallacy of focusing on individual shocking events whilst ignoring that the total immigration crime rate is lower; and treating sensational headlines as representative data.Multi-decade studies show that immigrants commit crimes at significantly lower rates than native-born citizens. The vast majority of immigrants come to work (although our crazy asylum rules don't permit working before home office permission to work is granted, or before their claim has been outstanding for 12 months) and employment acts as a strong deterrent to crime.Some asylum seekers will inevitably come from societies where cultural attitudes to women are very different from those of the UK, and the Home Office Guide provides extremely relevant advice to them. To that extent it is to be welcomed, but it is also a sad reflection on our society that it provides a pretext for little England nativists to exhibit their hatred of immigrants.

What struck me when I saw this on the News was that in a week where another two police officers are in deep trouble for crimes against women, perhaps this leaflet should be distributed to the Met. too. I support the police in general, but we cannot get away from the number of them that seem to need to be taught how to behave, and that we expect them to uphold higher standards and understand how to deal with women and girls. But, just as these offenders are a minority - so too are migrants who commit offences of that nature. However, the same day this leaflet was announced there was a programme on the BBC about an Afghan migrant who controlled and abused his wife, and when she finally left him he continued to stalk and harass her. This led to him murdering both of them eventually, in spite of their numerous frantic pleas to the police having taken the legal steps to try and prevent him from contacting the family. Many countries do not share our view of allowing the freedoms to women that we all accept, so if this leaflet helps in any small way perhaps it's time to stop clutching our Pearls and help people who come here to assimilate and understand how we live. Settling in another country even without being forced to leave your own place of birth is always a bit of a culture shock, surely any help should be welcomed?

if the government was brave enough to publish /record based upon ethnicity then we could all make our minds up. On the other hand, maybe they have the data and realise they have a problem and "someone " thought a leaflet would make a jot of difference or divert attention from the real issues . Until then we can read the news and and see what happens in front of our eyes and make our own minds up  Given the  conviction rate hovers around 1.5% /2% of reported sex crimes you'd probably be right in thinking there's bigger and more fundamental issues in the system than publishing a leaflet and thinking it'll make good PR for the governments failed and failing immigration system(s)

There’s a lot more interesting stuff in the leaflet about the independent status of women and their earning and employment opportunities in the UK, before it gets onto sexist banter and ‘whistling’ and eventually coercive behaviour and the true meaning of consent.

Judging by some of the comments made,it would seem the feeling is that we already have enough people here who don't seem to know the difference between right and wrong when it comes to consent,rape and how to approach females and others.I doubt we need any more,and I also doubt a leaflet will make any material difference.I just hope that whoever reads this will take it seriously,learn from it and that it results in fewer istances of grooming and rape by whomever.

As other have suggested, the so-called ‘Don't rape girls’ leaflet actually covers a lot more than that about living in the UK.  However, you'd expect it to be translated into other languages if it’s intended for asylum seekers, but it might well be useful in its present form for a wider audience of indigenous males who display far more of these attitudes.  The leaflet actually says that ‘These rules and expectations are not just for people seeking asylum, they apply to everyone living here’.One thing they could add, though, is something about not riding Deliveroo e-bikes through red traffic lights or riding on the pavement along Chiswick High Road!

The title of Michael Brown's post is a complete travesty of the guide, guaranteed to mislead and to reinforce prejudices. Indeed, as can be seen. there are people on this forum who believe the government is in effect acknowledging the criminality of asylum seekers.I blame myself fot not looking up the document before replying to Brown's question. My answer would have been neither 'yes' nor 'no', but rather a rejection of his grossly misleading characterisation of the guide.

There will be differences in other countries.The key part is consent which is understood differently elsewhere. A lot of sexual offences committed by men from overseas are based on confusion on this point - for instance they didn't realise a very drunk woman couldn't consent. This has only been the case in this country for a couple of decades. It is entirely sensible to make this clear.As a woman living in London I am aware that the rate of sexual offences including rape is markedly below the national average despite the majority of illegal immigrants and a large proportion of asylum seekers living here. I'm not being conned by the way that offences by immigrants are amplified and those by white men are ignored. The evidence suggests that I am at greatest risk from men who shout loudly about 'protecting our women and kids' - the proportion of them that have been arrested for violence against women is shocking.
