The oil lobby has adopted various tactics and messaging over the years to prevent a move away from using fossil fuels, the basis of its masters vast wealth. That it is too late now to do anything, so just get on with it, is the latest message and its as deceptive as all the others.Where we have got to, isn't the final destination and a new, fixed reality that we can adapt to, to live with.If we continue to add to the CO2 in the atmosphere, that is if we don't reach net zero, things will get very much worse. The oil lobby has managed to make net zero, which is an imperative, a term of derision and abuse. The latest in a series of staggering PR coups. But that lobby is funded by the richest people in the world, huge resources at its disposal. Them in one corner and poorly funded, academics in the other. The fairly tale ending is this latest oil lobby rhetoric; that we can do nothing, things won't get any or much worse than they are now and we can adapt and mitigate. We need to adapt and mitigate, but getting to net zero is vital if we want to try to avoid a catastrophe.
