Which pub is best for Lunch/Dinner on Strand on the Green?

Visiting out of town friends to W4. Any recommendations as to which Pub does the best Food?

Reputationally The Bull's Head. At the Bell & Crown we've have had disappointing experiences. Both of this int is very old from me, just to say. Recent times have had excellent food and service from the Steam Packet. Get an upstairs table if possible.

Not sure that there would be any difference in quality of Yorkshire puddings depending on whether they were made in Yorkshire or Kent, the best ones are probably made on site :)

I went to the Bulls Head and their Yorkshire puddings werent from Yorkshire, they said they were made by Brakes Brothers in Ashford Kent

Perhaps local favour has tailed off given there was a text from the ownership pre Christmas attempting to drum up trade while simultaneously not offering any incentive to do so. As you say the Rugby visit was in the past.

The food at Annie's has always been favoured not only by locals but in the past, regularly visited by England's rugby team who breakfasted there.

Appreciate it’s personal taste but Annie’s by our, & other locals we know, is far from the best quality (plus they nearly bumped off our neighbour Christmas Day with nuts - for which no gesture was offered)

It's not a pub but the best quality food by far in the vicinity of Strand on the Green is to be had at Annie's. If a view of the river is of secondary importance I would book there.

We alternate between the City Barge and Bell & Crown. Have tried the Steam Packet, but that was before it was taken over by the same people who now have The Roebuck, and we weren't impressed with the food there recently. Not that I've studied it too deeply, but I think the quality of the Sunday roast at any of these venues is largely dependent on what time you go. Midday is good, as is around 6/7. Mid afternoon or later in the evening and the food just isn't fresh - reheated pots, cauli cheese, etc. No insider knowledge, just my experience.

Used to rate the Bell & Crown, but since their revamp earlier this year food quality has diminished which is such a shame.  They’ve also introduced a tonic dispenser which for me is a disaster.  I like to mix my own gin so a bottle is perfect. Sadly we no longer go there.

A table near a window upstairs at the Steam Packet is arguably the best view but the pub was sold earlier this year and I haven't tried the food yet under the new owners.

The City Barge in my view. Both the Bell and Crown and the Bull's Head do pretty decent pub food at prices that aren't outrageous in this day and age but the City Barge has a more interesting and varied menu for which you pay more. Haven't been to the Steampacket in ages but that was  good when I tried it.
