The Post Office move

Although this means the Post Office is going to be further away from me than it was, I still think this is a welcome development. The only downside is that it is a much smaller unit and there may be issue trying to get through the queue for Frankies!It may finally herald the demolition of the existing Post Office building which is long overdue. That corner of Chiswick is developing quite nicely thanks to the Sanderson return and the (surprising to me at least) evident success of Lil Nashville. The work on the Drill Hall seems to have stalled however.My view is this progress would be undermined if the building was given over entirely to residential as the police station was. I can understand the economic argument for doing this but it would be bad news for Chiswick as a town centre.

I can't find anything online but my recollection is that it was also the issue of the inaccessibility of the delivery office on Bollo Lane that led to a reconsideration of the plans. There isn't a bus route that makes the site accessible for most people living in Chiswick and I believe services have been reduced further since the consultation was held some years ago.If the Heathfield Terrace building is about to be redeveloped then Chiswick would lose its delivery office (which is a Royal Mail not a Post Office service). The new Post Office by Turnham Green could be a click and collect point but not a full service delivery point.

The Post Office and the Royal Mail are separate operations. If I recall correctly from previous reports, the Royal Mail sold the building to a property company many years ago and took a lease which has now expired and is being renewed on a rolling basis. There was talk some time ago of shutting the sorting office at Heathfield Terrace but, according to my postie, the union was against it and it was deemed impractical because of the impact the level crossing on Bollo Lane would have on deliveries if sorting was shifted to Bollo Bridge Road.

So that's the proposed move for Chiswick Post Office, but can someone remind me where the sorting office and the rest in the old building are going to go?I thought one plan was to move it to the existing building in Bollo Lane, but that area is now rapidly changing from 'lo-rise industrial' to 'hi-rise residential' so I can't see that working out any longer.

I did wonder about the queuing situation ref Frankie's! It's a great bakery tho, with such warm and friendly service. I'm sure they'll figure things out.

I too welcome the "return" of the Post Office and it will be much nearer to my house than the current one, to the extent I may consider being an eBayer! However I will rue the demise of Autocheck who have always maintained my cars over the last 30 years. Does anyone have a recommendation for a reliable neighbourhood garage?

I think it is a long shot that we would get a new police station. However there was talk of the police being given access to facilities in 'Copper House' a while ago but that seems to have gone quiet.The ideal outcome for me would be a new community theatre perhaps managed by the people who have made such a success of the Tabard. Failing that a discount supermarket. However, the risk is that the building is made 100% residential which would strangle the recovery of this corner of Chiswick.

I agree, a welcome development and wish the Postmaster success in his applicationSurely the existing building could re-structured to also accommodate a much needed Chiswick Police Station?
