Thank God it’s all over!

….for another year! I’m already feeling a lot chirpier! Anyone else not a fan of Christmas? The Grinch.

Yes, there are areas that are tougher to deal with like crossing out names in the address book which wasn't anything I discussed with my parents and which they must have faced.  The internet can make it easier to stay in touch and/ or find closure on some of those questions on missing friends.  Sometimes there are friendships made when you make the effort to follow up on a missing card - revealing something that a partner caring for a friend just wouldn't want to write in a Christmas greetings card but that partner might well be happy to correspond.And remember sometimes cards get lost and may not even have arrived.  And IT keeps changing and getting harder to deal with yourself rather than easier.

Sorry chaps Christmas does not actually finish until the 5th January .... Just saying!Its New Year's Eve that often leaves me a little down and reflecting on uncompleted tasks, friends that I have lost contact with, opportunities that have slipped by and words that should have remained unsaid and certainly not posted on social media.

Season of Stress & Excess!It's nice to spend some time with friends and family and each year is a chance to find a way to choose the best ideas of the past and build on creating a holiday with less waste.Luckily Father Christmas (who checks his list twice) knows that we like to use lots of things twice when its sensible to do so.  So he ties labels onto the packaging instead of writing names in the middle of a large sheet of wrapping paper.We're better at using leftovers - turkey sandwiches with stuffing, redcurrant jelly and bread sauce are de riguer on Boxing Day and as long as possible plus turkey pie or curry and stock made into soup from the carcase. A new larger slow cooker has made that easier with a multi-generational family!

'Hammersmith was also closed on Boxing Day.'My friend must have been hallucinating then since she claimed to have shopped there on Friday. I thought it odd that they would be open when the other branches weren't.

M&S have been closed on Boxing Day for a few years now, although I gather from a friend that the Hammersmith branch was open for some reason.Also: Bah, humbug!

Bins full of quarter-eaten turkeys, untouched bread,  pigs in blankets (and their boxes) and credit card receipts. The gift that keeps taking. Not for me, but good for those who do buy into it. On a side note, I hear there was much anger as M&S chose to stay closed on Boxing Day. Good for them (and their hard-working staff).

We don't do Christmas dinner or anything, just send cards to friends and family, years ago it was mostly for children, Father Christmas and all that and visiting Grottos, but gives families time together.
