Mince Pies !

We miss the "Plum Duff Bakery"...once located at the top of 'The Avenue'especially at this time of the year.Their "puff pastry" mince pies were memorable.Interestingly the Sunday Times recently published their findings following a blind tasting of this years offerings at prominent supermarkets. What surprise scores.Waitrose 5 starsM&S      2 starsAnd Waitrose are selling theirs currently at discount prices!

Sainsbury's Mince Pies amassed 4 stars Paul ..."the pastry collapsed after the first bite!Lidl? 1 star "not even good enough to leave out for Santa!"

I have never taken to a "luxury" mince pie and have always thought they are far better at the cheaper end of the marketThe best by far I have found this year is from Sainsburys where they sell a pack of four for £1.75 or two packs for just £2 and they are delicious

The baker was from Accrington so he made some decent meat and potato pies, a Lancashire delicacy.I have never in all my 48 years in London seen them made in any other bakery.Morrison's do them now and again,but they aren't up to much.

Plum Duff is still there as a cafe, but doesn’t make mince pies any more.

Morrison's do a decent mince pie,but agree that Plum Duff's were the best.
