Sadiq Khan isn't trying to foist anything on you. This is a private sector development which has already been approved by Hounslow Council. Under normal circumstances the Mayor would have been the best hope for preventing this blight on the most historic parts of Chiswick, as he has consistently opposed developments with a low affordability content and he may yet decide to reject this scheme. However, as the article has pointed out, the timing of this application may be unfortunate as the rhetoric on affordable housing is changing and the Mayor is hinting that reviving housing starts is now the priority. This, in itself, is good policy but not good for the prospects of blocking this terrible building.
