Bird watching

I have just seen a red kite lazily patrolling the skies over Bedford Corner and Chiswick Back Common. I have long been aware of these birds getting ever closer to central London down the M4 and M3 corridors ever since their reintroduction some years back. They are now a regular sight on the way to and from Heathrow and I knew it was only a matter of time before they came to town. They are a wonderful sight but small furry creatures might not be quite  happy to see them nor the foxes, as I'm sure they'll soon be availing themselves of the discarded fast food and overflowing bins in our parks and green spaces. On balance though I welcome them.

I've been out of Chiswick for a couple of years but have seen quite a few peregrine (the pair scaring the feral pigeons over Chiswick station was probably the best occasion) as well as sparrowhawk and kestrel.We had a tiny garden on Sutton Court Road, but the number of different species of birds we had was amazing - from goldcrest to redwing; from Cetti's warbler to chiffchaff.Also, the birdlife nearby was amazing on the Thames or at Chiswick House let alone Barnes WWT.(I like parakeets though - sorry.)

Need to encourage some of the peregrine falcons to come to Chiswick!

Wouldn't be great if they could be trained to prey on parakeets!
