Attempted burglary last night

Following a successful break in on the 16th of June in which 4 bicycles were stolen and our gate lock broken; there was another attempt last night during which they attempted to batter down, very noisily, our reinforced gate which, this time, withstood their assault.We have bright lights that come on when anyone enters but that does not seem to deter them. On the 16th, they also climbed the stairs and tried the luckily locked door of a studio on the second floor but ran away on being asked, through the door, who they were.The police came the next day but we have heard no more from them. Can anyone suggest what more we can do?

Where was the attempt? usually a local 'scumbag' (if we can use that term nowadays) with a habit to feed.

Sorry to hear that. We've found our dog, though tiny, is very effective at deterring people from approaching our property.
