Assisted Dying Bill

Can anybody tell me why SNP politicians had a vote in the Assisted Dying Bill England and Wales. A few chose not to vote but a good number did. Scotland is going to have its own vote, from what I understand.

Oh, I agree with you, Anne. I meant that I also don't think English MPs should vote on Welsh or Scottish issues. Or vice versa.

But this bill was specifically for England and Wales. Scotland will have their own vote on assisted dying where, I'm sure, nobody else will have a say.

I do agree with you regarding voting for what happens in your own country only - England MPs shouldn't be voting for what happens in Wales, either. At the moment English MPs still have far too much power over what happens in parts of Wales and Scotland.

I'd rather we 'stayed together'. Just don't get why SNP politicians get to vote on something which is a matter concerning England and Wales i.e. of no concern to them or their constituents. I believe the Scottish Parliament is going to have their own vote on the issue in Scotland.

The best solution is for Scotland and Wales to gain independence. Fingers crossed, it will happen at some point. Especially as the independence movement in Wales is on the rise.

It has long been a bone of contention that SNP members can vote in the commons, but English, Welsh and Northern Irish MPs have no say in Scottish affairs.

Tam Dalyell first raised this question in 1977. If he were alive, he'd still be waiting for an answer.
