With the random holes dug here and there in various roads, and associated cones/temporary lights, our cunning plot to curtail freedom of movement locally as well as internationally is really motoring(!), unlike W4 drivers.

Perhaps, as previously mentioned that is down to the hot weather rather than them pro-actively making things worse. If you want to be glass-half-full, the delay on the Piccadilly line new stock will also delay signal work there which will mean replacing the signalling on the Richmond branch should get more priority.

In my experience , the district line seems to have got worse since a weekend closure a month or so ago.

I arrived at Gunnersbury Station at about 3pm today with a fairly urgent need to get to Stratford in East London.A chalk notice was being drafted on a Notice Board "No District or Mildred line trains either way! That got me challenged. Buses 237 and 94 to Holland Park then Central Line to Stratford. I was 1/2 hour late sadly ... but David Old, the masterbarber still obliged He understood. No black mark!

Don't think that the current suspension is anything to do with the fire which was in East London. Seems like the problem is signals again. I believe the pre-war and mid 20th century signalling equipment in use on the Richmond branch is more prone to failure in exceptionally hot weather

The fire that started yesterday has relit customer service information. No Tube or overground today to Richmond maybe back tomorrow evening .
I've wondered that for some time. There is a good explanation of why in the article which appeared in last Sunday's newsletter and is currently still on the front page. Basically, the complexity of the Richmond branch of the District line meant that it was decided not to fund a signal upgrade and it was left with legacy systems which are prone to failure. The good news is that the latest funding package given to TfL by the government appears to cover the cost of modernisation of this section although it may be a year or two until we see any benefit.

Trackside fire near Richmond was the info given out when I was on the train earlier. Makes a change from signal failure !

You may think it is one line, but the ownership of the line changes between London Underground and Network Rail just to the east of Gunnersbury station, so maintenance and upgrades can be a bit of a mess involving 2 different organisations that don't operate the same way.
