Turnham green tube option

Last Friday, the Eastbound into town had a 15-minute-plus hiatus.  I was surprised nobody [of the 100+ people waiting] switched to the westbound side; now the Ealing change [no stairs!] onto Elizabeth Line is so fast.          Indeed, we left Turnham Green at about 11.15 a.m., just caught the 11.33 train at Ealing to Farringdon Station and arrived at 11.50 after 17 minutes.Given the useful changeovers at Bond Street, T.C.R. & Liverpool Street, perhaps some just don't realise.On a later Lizzie Line trip into town, I noted the TFL App did not flag up Ealing Broadway Elizabeth Line as a "Directions" option. hmmmm.Try it, it's very civilised for theatreland, Soho or even Essex!

We increasingly go 'into town' from Chiswick Park by shunting out to Ealing Broadway and whizzing back in on the Elizabeth Line.  We're slowly getting the hang of its stations being so long they many have two entrances a considerable distance apart and you need to be at the 'right end' for where you want to go. Equally, many are some distance from the traditional tube station of the same name.

Bond Street Elizabeth Line Station is a fair distance from the underground station of the same name, and I don't think you can get from one station to the other without exiting the station via a ticket barrier.That doesn't mean you will be charged extra. Consider the transition between the two stations at Hammersmith: so long as you don't hang about the whole thing is treated as one journey.

Getting on and off the Lizzie Line at Ealing Broadway can be problematic as there is a huge gap/drop between the platform and the train.  There have been reports in the press of quite a few falls - so be very careful.  I also wondered if this situation wasn't exacerbated by the handle to hold onto to get on and off having to be placed so far inside the carriage that you have to stretch even further to grasp it.

Hi Brian - agreed - you only pass through ticket barriers when entering/exiting Ealing Broadway station. Bond Street Elizabeth Line Station is a fair distance from the underground station of the same name, and I don't think you can get from one station to the other without exiting the station via a ticket barrier.What I don't know is whether you are meant to tap your oyster/debit/credit card on a reader at platform level at Ealing Broadway if changing from Underground to Elizabeth line (or vice-versa).

I've done the Chiswick Park to Ealing Broadway for the Lizzy Line many times it's easy there are no barriers to go through.

Indeed.  I just checked and Hammersmith to Kings Cross via H&C line is given as 2 mins faster than via Piccadilly line.OK, you will lose those minutes transferring to H&C station but H&C has bigger & newer trains, air conditioning, almost guaranteed seat.  The new Piccadilly line trains will be better but probably still not guaranteed a seat.H&C is pretty handy for Euston as well with a short walk from Euston Square.

Indeed it looks to be about a pound extra.  Obvs. it's destination-dependent in pounds and pence.  Think of it as a small coffee charge!I was rather considering those Turnham Green ratepayers either on a deadline, or those connecting at perhaps King's X, St. P. or Euston mainline.Indeed the Hammersmith line is splendidly under-used; further, everyone must tap in at Ealing Broadway Lizzie line; as is supposed.

Bond Street on the Elizabeth line is a different station to Bond Street on the Underground.I don't think you can transfer between the central line and Elizabeth line without going through a ticket barrier. I'm not 100% certain about this though.The ticketing software might be programmed to charge you the default fare if it thinks you haven't correctly checked in or out.If you travel via  EB and deliberately avoid registering your card at Ealing Broadway, that is likely to be deemed as fare dodging - so unless your name is Brian Coyle who openly encouragesd people to break the law, I wouldn't risk it.

Turnham Green is shown as being in both Zones 2 and 3. Presumably that means if you go East into Zone 1 you are charged from Zone 2 to Zone 1 whereas if you go West within Zone 3 you are charged for just the one zone. Therefore going from TG to Ealing Broadway (all in Zone 3) would potentially become an issue if you then head into Zone 1 on the Elizabeth line - but only if you pass through a checkpoint at EB, otherwise your journey would show simply as a Zone 2 to Zone 1 journey when you check out in Zone 1. They don't make it easy, do they ?

Interesting.  I tried the route on Citymapper and it did list Elizabeth line via Ealing Broadway as an option, but not the first choice (which was District to Hammersmith and then H&C line)I think going via Ealing Broadway will be slightly more expensive as you would be charged a zone 3 to zone 1 fare from there (if you need to go through a gateline to transfer )I don't know how crowded Elizabeth line is at Ealing in the peak but an advantage of the H&C line route is a guaranteed seat at Hammersmith as the trains start from there.
