I can't help but find this obscene and ironic in the context of budget cuts and the story of children's centre closures

As long as people have spare money to slosh around on luxuries like this, then there’s plenty of room to increase taxes and spread it round a bit to help those who need it more. ‘Spend your own money how you like’ must have limitations in a civilised society.

My response didn't post?Yes I was making the society priorities connection as the children's centre closures item on same  newsletter.Additionally these businesses are run by companies like Mars It's not "All creatures Great And small"Over £6 billion industry per annum in UK alone and that doesn't include pet foodWhen I see vans running round West London picking up pets to take them off to a country exercise and pamper spa for the day it really galls me If someone doesn't have the lifestyle to look after their own pet then don't become an animal owner.

I kind of take your point but where to draw the line, should we close all nice restaurants because there are some people are going hungry? The enterprise is probably just a really big vets and the 'health spa' business looks like it could be rehabilitation for animals which have suffered leg injuries and might otherwise have to be put down.

It's not as if the local council or a government department are funding this, and although it may call into question the priorities we have as a society - people are entitled to spend their own money as they see fit.
