Lime Bike scandal

As an occasional Lime-Bike user. I've always found Lime Bikes to be tricky things to handle, mostly because of their weight. Recently while docking one it fell over pulling me with it, removing a slice of my shin in the process. I was a bit shaken up but didn't really think anything of it except to note that I must be more careful next time. However having watched this Private Eye podcast, I'm not sure I'll be getting back on one again any time soon. On top of the well-aired complaints about misuse of Lime Bikes, it seems there might be a rather more serious problem to consider. The podcast in Bruce's original post is scary. Strange we have not heard more about this issue. I had not heard the clicking noise for some time until yesterday when two girls in school uniform passed by in leafy Chiswick Grove Park. They were riding (on the pavement !!) the same Lime Bike. Jaw dropping. Somehow both makes me proud to be British and a credit to American pioneer Amelia Bloomer.

The clicking issue seems to have largely disappeared. I spotted one being ridden out of borough at the weekend and it occurred to me it had been a long time since I had heard that sound, months perhaps, when once it had been pervasive. Presumably newer bikes without the vulnerability have been introduced or they have made adjustments to stop it happening.

They don't click anymore but make a whining noise that is actually quieter then the click.  Often to be heard around the Haverfield Estate in Brentford. I had to pick someone up from near to The Pottery Arms and only one Lime bike that passed as I was waiting wasn't whining.

That's interesting as I honestly haven't heard a clicking bike for ages, and was going to ask whether the issue about them being hacked had been fixed.Are you talking about hacked bikes in Richmond/Barnes?

It seems that the theft of lime bikes is on the increase again because every second bike I see makes the sound identifying them as being hacked.

Lime bikes came to the aid of several members of England's cricket team yesterday when the coach taking them to the Oval from their Kensington hotel couldn't move through south London's heavy traffic.Rather than stay put in the coach and miss the scheduled start of play Captain Harry Brook called the whole team off the coach and gave them three options to find their own way to the ground: tube, legging it or choosing a lime bike (conveniently available close by).The team all reported for play on time, with no reports of fines for rail fare evasion, no one lost their way amongst Kennington's winding streets, and no one reported injuries from mishandling heavy bikes.From a difficult start to the day England finished on a high by beating West Indies by 7 wickets.
