Chiswick Wildfires

If we have a long hot summer without much rain, could we see wildfires in our famously green and rather leafy suburb? Happened to Wennington in 2022 so not so far fetched!https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-66148110

There was a death caused by the rider of a Lime bike on Loftus Rd W12 in May.

It seems there have been a few, though they tend not to be brought indoors to be charged up, which is when e-bikes, particularly the dodgy conversions, are at their most dangerous.

According to the London Fire Brigade, e-bikes and e-scooters are now the fastest growing fire risk in the capital, whatever the weather.

Davey, chill out Chiswick may have been struck by a mini tornado yonks ago and there are no active volcanos near Chiswick so nothing to worry about at all.

Fires can be started indoors in summer too by the sun - keep mirrors away from windows and curtains.  Also take care about what you leave in your car in the sun.  Last year I remember a fire bring caused by sunglasses left on the dashboard of a car...

Timber frames are used the world over with no more or less problems that any other building material if done properly. If the temperature is high enough bricks, concrete and steel will burn.

Heard the compost heap 'spontaneously combusted'. What if fire caught hold in Chiswick whether from compost heaps, junkies, garden fireplaces, or disposable BBQs - my worry is an LA type disaster. In Wennington they only had enough water to douse one side of a street. Once it started could be hard to stop!

Yes if irresponsible people have barbecues in public spaces and gardeners don't monitor their compost heaps. It was the latter that sparked the Wennington conflagration.Also seen plenty of junkies discard lit cigarette ends (and no doubt other smoked substances) without caring. Broken glass can also be a source of ignition if in direct sunlight in dry conditions.
