Resident Parking Permit

Ours has doubled from £70 to £140! Yet we cant seem to find anywhere to park lately!(Please dont ask me to cycle its raining outside all weekend)

The parking rules in the application say they don't guarantee you a parking space.  This isn't an unusual state of affairs.

It wouldn't surprise me if most council's parking permits stipulate something about a parking permit only giving you the right to park ( rather than a guarantee).Anyway, back to my first question (with a bit more detail admittedly), where do you park your car during the operational hours of the CPZ? Do you park it outside of the CPZ you have a permit for?

So have submitted an FOI to Ealing Council for their figures of number of resident parking permits sold vs number of parking spaces per zone…… this should be interesting, meeting a solicitor for lunch today!

To add, the idea that there should be ample, cheap if not free parking whether outside homes, where you work, or go to shop leads to vast areas of parking lots as seen in the US, paid for by everyone whether or not they drive. So what do you suggest, Sam? if there really are too many permits for the nearby spaces, the council either have to ration them or put up prices to reduce demand. Otherwise residents will just have to walk further. Where exactly is the “con” here?

If you do not not have a permit you should not park in CPZ during the hours when it is enforced. It is a con to sell more permits than there are parking spaces.

The right to park - no-one is going to guarantee you a space for obvious reasons.

Can you please give some indication of where you live? There are parts of Chiswick where the Council appears to have sold far more permis than there are parking spaces. Apparently this is based on the assumption that not all permist holders will want to park at the same time.To me this looks pretty close to fraud - "Sure, I will sell you a parking permit BUT I cannot guarantee that you will be able to park."
