Post Offices can't make a profit with the deals they get from Royal Mail. Nobody is going to run a loss-making business and until Royal Mail get their act together Post Offices aren't worth running.
It's why post offices are full of other stuff to sell. The actual Post Office counter is a loss leader and there comes a time when the increase in rents and business rates means the business isn't viable, especially if, as I suspect, a developer has offered a ton of money for the building.
I don't really understand why there's such a need for a Post Office anyway. Maybe someone can tell me what you can do at the Post Office that you can't do elsewhere in Chiswick. WH Smith and Sainsbury's have In-Post lockers for parcels. They both also sell stamps. Buying stamps can also be done online and at Mailboxes on the high Road. Post Office banking can be done online. Foreign exchange is in Sainsbury's or the forex place.
Maybe I've missed something, but I can't see what use it has that you can't get elsewhere.
Yes, there are some elderly people who maybe don't understand the technology, but in all the above there are people to help them or they could ask a friend.
