Am I an old fuddy  duddy

There are many conversations about standards dropping . But quite honestly some adverts are too much:- spraying your marbles, red liquid on sanitary pads now a child farting in the classroom . Is there no place for dignity ?

It's true that there is less money around for TV commercials as companies like Google, Facebook etc have taken it. The rise of Netflix and the other streamers has meant that companies like ITV and C4 have less to spend on programming that means a poorer output which puts the viewer off.

The big problem is  that the commercial tv companies are desperate for income and are having toshare out what's available among a much bigger number of stations. And in the old days of tv advertising no ad could be made until the ITCA approved a storyboard and script, and a lot of the ads you see nowadays would never have got made.

You hit the nail on the the head Vanessa. V Killick mentions men's leakage problems. I did not even know that I had a pelvic floor before my brush with prostate cancer a few years ago. Fortunately the exercises worked (at least for me). It was however embarrassing buying the pads for a few weeks. I was talking recently to a friend several years younger than me for whom this has been a real problem. Not something most of us enjoy talking about - so many more macho injuries to discuss quite openly! All quite silly really. Never ask anyone over 70 how they are, because they will probably tell you!

I agree Vanessa,but I think those warnings are there to cut down on possible complaints from those who cannot contextualise scripts from years ago or who cannot tell what is fiction or s=what is satirical etc.It's when they cut lines from classic comedies like Porridge that annoys me.In fairness,the BBC rarely does this.I watched Blazing Saddles,the classic Mel Brooks comedy from the 70's a year or so ago on BBC4 and was as surprised that they had even planned to air it as I was when I found it was the  complete,unexpurgated version.

More than the evermore weird advertising - what really grinds my gears are those bonkers 'trigger warnings' as if we're all about two years old and have lived in complete isolation. They are even given out prior to some programmes that are donkey's years old and you are also given advice as who you can contact if any of the content has directly affected you. One programme - apart from the age of it, is an American series, why would you need help after watching a 20+year old programme from another country? And what possible help would it be? Even the humble soaps are apparently so shocking we have to be treated like small children and warned before they are shown. Everyday we see far and away more upsetting things on the News, no-one can protect us from life in the 21st Century, we always have the OFF button.

I agree that some of these ads make one look away but there is one (vaguely related) which makes me chuckle every time - an homage to Sharon Stone in Basic Instinct!

I agree. References to diversity and inclusion seem quite bizarre in this instance, it's alarming to see these MAGA obsessions making their way into this country. If however these ads do bother you, don't complain to OFCOM, contact the Advertising Standards Authority.

On the other hand - we now live in a world where we can be open and honest about all sorts of things and a lot of people will seek proper medical advice for things they may well find deeply embarrassing. Trying to disparage this by saying it's the fault of diversity and inclusion is total nonsense.
