Desert Island Discs

If you did not hear this last Sunday morning, then do try to listen tomorrow morning (28 March) at 9am on BBC Radio 4.It features a lovely Welsh lady, whose name for some reason I did not pick up, who tells a story of childhood poverty, love, sadness and achievement in public life.It is both moving and awe-inspiring, and reminds us that although our politicians have reduced our once great nation into the status of a fifth-rate shithouse, there is still beauty, grace and dignity in many of our people.

A woman of staggering courage and stoicism in the face of an horrific childhood. I thanked my luck that my parents were good people but even if they were not, you can still break the chain, she broke it and some.Desert Island Discs is consistently  one of the best programmes on the BBC albeit sometimes the music choices are excretable :)++++

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Donna_OckendenI think this is who you mean.  It was a really good programme on the challenges she herself faced growing up and her intense determination to make a change in society in her work for the better.The previous castaway was I think Carl Jones a conservation biologist and Welshman who also had a very interesting and satisfying life improving the breeding numbers of kestrels on Mauritius after they and their habitat had been poisoned with I think DDT.  That too is well worth listening to.https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m00290d8
