I am happy to report that the stall on Saturday was an overwhelming success.The questions on the EUrometer attracted much discussion.The anger at Trump and Musk was very strong indeed...TRUMP OR EU? .......Donald Trump wants :To stop aid to Ukraine;To pull out of the 2015 Paris Climate Change Agreement;To impose tariffs of 10% - 20% on all imports.Should the U.K want :                                                  YES NO DKA defence pact with EU/ joint support for Ukraine?Joint action with EU on Climate Change/Net Zero?Trade with EU in a Customs Union & the Single Market?To try for a UK/ US trade deal on our own(“special relationship”)Trump is indeed pushing the UK back into the EU rapidly and the UK will be all the better for it.....

Contrary to the 2016 UK referendum Brexit line – the EU is actually more democratic than the UK. Taking back our ‘sovereignty’ ended up making us less sovereign!,

How are those promised Environmental regulations improving now we have left? Poor standard farm animals from Australia full of antiobiotics, chlorinated chicken and toxic beef from USA with a touch of bird flu thrown in? What about our water (or should I call it sewage) industry – the EU has set high standards for their water and were even taking the UK to court in 2016 over our poor standards….

You are right Janice.Whilst inside the EU we were totally ignored in our efforts to reform things within it.Every single amendment GB put forward in our 43 years of membership was rejected.We have more chance now of winning the Eurovision song contest than we ever had of having our voice heard inside the EU.

How is that wonderful burst of economic growth promised in 2016 working for you? All those wonderful trade deals never happened or were completely insignificant. The eventual loss of 5% of our GDP and the ruinous austerity of the last 15 years, means that the poorest 40% in the UK are now worse off than almost all EU countries. If we joined the USA as Trump has suggested, we would now be the poorest state in it. The EU used to poor huge amounts of funding into our poorest areas (we had 7 of the poorest 10 regions in northern EU in 2016)

The UK needs the security of the EU to keep Russia, China (and even the USA) at bay. NATO is no longer sufficient for our security. If only we had an EU army!

The problem, Janice, is that they now control so much of our lives, but we have no input on that control. In the old days, we were the big fish in the EU decision making and had so much control over our lives... now we are just effectively vassals of the huge trading bloc 20 miles away from us!As to funding.... we spend much higher amounts on costs that we used to pay very little for or not at all as we had free trade with the EU... than the small annual contribution we used to have.Apart from customs, duties, transport and border costs there is also the bureaucracy... an extra 100,000 civil servants last I looked (the EU only employ about 30k civil servants in total... you have to laugh)

Talking about democracy..... the EU is the only major power bloc that can stop the end of democracy and the movement to oligarchy and autocracy. We can no longer depend on the US, where the mango monster wants to be king and is moving remorselessly towards that or something similar.If you are in despair at Trump’s autocratic attempt at ending US democracy, then please note that the dwindling global democracies are still fully represented in the EU and in it's power structure.

Were we able to get rid of Truss when she became prime minister - Dear Oh Dear!Meanwhile you ignore the fact that the EU president is voted in by the leaders of the nations that make up the EU. I thought Brexiters wanted to keep the importance of the nation state in the EU? Or have I got that wrong?

But the UK was but a small part of the eligible electorate who could vote in the European elections. Even if all of the UK were against a particular incumbent, if the rest of Europe were in favour, then of course we couldn't expect him or her to lose their office.And, as is evidenced in recent UK history, the Prime Minister isn't necessarily chosen by the electorate anyway.Dare I whisper the name Liz Truss? How many people voted to choose her to be the PM of the UK? 81236 I believe!

If you are seriously comparing our constitutional monarch to a politician who was made President of the European Commission, then you ought to take up a study course in democratic constitutions. Under our system, if the electorate decides it wants a change as head of government, it is able to do so at the next general election - as Gordon Brown and Rishi Sunak discovered.

Yes, we were able to vote for the European parliament - that gave Nigel Farage a handy income while he was an MEP. But was there any chance of our voting removing the likes of Jean-Claude Juncker ?

Unelected ? I remember  voting in the European elections , the member being Claude Moraes a Scotsman.As for being ruled over 90 % of the laws were passed in Westminster not Brussels.Brexit the biggest self imposed economic sanction ever inflicted on this country.

Excellent idea Richard. Perhaps one of these Remoaners could tell us why they prefer to be ruled over and told what to do by a bunch of incompetent and corrupt people in a foreign country. We fought wars to get rid of people like that. Also, when a government takes power in this country, at least we have a chance to kick them out after 5 years. What's the equivalent procedure in the EU? As those individuals in meaningful positions of power, are unelected, how can they possibly be accountable? I promise not to mention the Euro.

The promises on immigration in 2016 – when we had 200 boat people crossing the channel a year, were just so much hot air; there were 65,000 by 2023 as we could no longer return them to France. The authorised immigration levels in 2016 of an odd 100,000 led by 2023 to 1 million. Previously, we used to have temporary EU workforces where most returned back to their country. Now we have immigration from everywhere else and they usually want to bring their families as well. Come to our Saturday stall if you want to discuss Brexit and it's downfall
