CHR traffic lights need adjusting pronto

CHR traffic lights at TGT need adjustingMid morning I used the rainbow crossing across CHR by Snappy Snaps.  An old lady with a walking stick was already waiting to cross.  Like many locals I know the sequence so as soon as the Annandale traffic had gone, I was off keeping, my eyes open for the mad delivery guys in a hurry.When I got to the other side, the old lady was still sensibly and perfectly correctly waiting for the “green man”.I stayed and watched.The lights soon began to beep, counting down the 10 seconds she was allowed to make it to the other side.  Trouble was, she'd only just got past the halfway mark when her time ran out.  So I stepped out and protected her until she reached safety.If any Councillors get to read this, perhaps they'll agree that these local lights need an extra 5 seconds minimum to make sure the very elderly stay safe.The traffic must wait longer.

SCR/A4 junction has been a problem for years, usually in the afternoon.  The issue is not the length of time to cross the A4 but that there is no separate slot to allow people turning right from SCR (going south) to the A4 (going west).  I think people have been raising the option for a dedicated right turn timing for many many years and there is no chance of it happening because the relevant authority does not want to impede traffic on the A4 (also why Hogarth roundabout is a mess of timings)

Mmmm.  I'm not sure about electric scooters either.  But the video was more to do with cycles.  Personally I have no problem with cyclists.  Of course there's the odd idiot but generally they're doing us all a great favour under the circumstances.  Mums and dads all over Chiswick teaching their kids to cycle.  Then look at the queues of traffic on the High Road,  Mainly one person per car with many cars taking up multi multi times more space that a bike.

What on earth possessed you to write that, Julian.  And don't say it was a light-hearted joke because it didn't read like one.Sure, this forum is plagued by ridiculously exaggerated  anecdotal tales.  But John's read true. I've seen myself many a close shave at those lights - and the most dangerous by far involved a driver putting his foot down when they'd already gone to amber - and quite often red.

The traffic lights on and centering on the corner of TGT have been a problem for pedestrians for as long as I can remember.Many people, mostly younger, haven't the patience to wait for the green light to go, and get caught mid-stream when crossing.Luckily most car drivers (not all cyclists) approach the crossing with caution and prevent many an accident.

"Like many locals I know the sequence so as soon as the Annandale traffic had gone, I was off"So do i but the odd cyclist knows this aswell and proceeds accross Annandale from originaly stopping at a red light but is obviousy crossing the green man for pedestrians that proceeds the exit for Annandale traffic.Not for everyone but the gaps in stopping and starting in other directions allow me to cross like TG stopping and Annandale starting but as a say,not for everyone but im no longer the only one.

Thanks Joanna,Personally I find CHR perfectly safe and there are numerous places dedicated to crossing over, including the traffic lights.  It's a lovely High Road.  It just seems rather obvious that the elderly and the frightened, like Madeleine, need quite a bit more time to get across.

If all the cyclists that run red lights every day, speeding through  Chiswick, then it would be a great deal safer and more pleasant for all locals including the elderly.

Thanks for raising this. I will see what I can do. There have been several requests for lights to be rephrased - at other crossings along the High Road, too. It has become much harder for people who walk more slowly to cross the road since the traffic islands were removed.
