Man dies after fall in Chiswick 31st October. Dave Jervis??

Does anyone know anymore about a man having a fall in Chiswick High Rd on 31st October and then unfortunately dying in hospital a few days later? I think his name might be Dave Jervis from Fraser St? I think I found his shopping near Caffè Nero that day?

As I wandered along the north side of Chiswick High Road yesterday from TGT to Fishers Lane, as I do quite often,I was saddened and reminded that I wouldn't be bumping into David again.That stretch of the High Road will never be the same again for me ...and I'll know why.RIP Dave.

Dave was our immensely talented video effects maestro on The Hot Shoe Show - a comedy sketch and dance show on BBC1 in the early 80s. His work was groundbreaking at the time and, despite the relentless schedule, he was always so kind and charming.  He poured his heart into one particular techno number - earning him a Director credit. Dave was very surprised and thrilled to bits.

Thank you Juliet, we understand from a neighbour that the cat in question wasn't stray and lived on a neighborhood road so it does sound like we're talking about the same cat. Hi Andy, I saw your post on the forum about Dave’s passing. I am so sorry for your loss.I write a page in the BBC’s Doctor Who Magazine, which amongst other things includes mentions of those who have passed, who have worked on either side of the camera. Dave worked on the show a number of times, and whilst I can’t say it will be an extensive piece, I am keen to include mention of his passing. I wondered how old Dave was?I hope you don’t mind me getting in touch, and I hope you don’t think me insensitive to do so. Mitch Mitchell, who was a long-term colleague of Dave’s at the BBC is a good friend, and I’ve heard many of his stories about working with Dave. I will let him know the sad news, and I’m sure Mitch would want to attend the funeral, if he is welcome.With sympathy, Alex

Thank you Andy for the update.  He sounds a lovely man. It would appear, but not confirmed, that a black cat whose owner lives in Duke Rd, returned home on 1st Nov having been missing intermittently for a couple years. We can only assume that after not receiving his meal on the evening of 31st that he decided to return to Duke Rd. That's cats for you eh 😻? Rest in peace Dave🙏.

Hello ChiswickW4. I am one of Dave's nephews and I am sorry to confirm it was Dave Jervis, former BBC cameraman and video effects supervisor, that fell on the High Road on Thursday 31st October and that unfortunately he passed away in the early hours Monday 4th November. In that time he was well cared for at St Mary's hospital and we were able to be with him.We have a kind person's pink blanket which went to hospital with Dave and would like to return it and thank the owner if possible.His case is currently with the coroner's office, as such we are unable to make funeral arrangements until their work is complete. If it is acceptable to the forum's admin I will update with news for funeral arrangements in due course.In the meantime, I would welcome contact from those that knew Dave and in particular those that may be able to help us inform others he knew in the area.Dave was a very caring man and former cat owner himself a number of years ago and we are not at all surprised to hear he was concerned with the welfare of local cats. Rest assured, Richard, that there is no cat trapped in his home.Juliet, thank you for finding and taking care of his items and your efforts to return them. I will attempt to message you directly.

I knew him to chat to in the street and he was, as Nora says, a lovely man. Very sad to hear this news. But pleased to see how many people knew and cared about him.

This is sure the same Dave Jervis who was a senior video effects supervisor at the BBC Television Centre for many years He was a BAFTA winner Can anyone confirm ?Very sad news Would be very useful to hear of any funeral details More info about Dave :Dave won a BAFTA for Life and lives of a She Devil, He was one of the original members of the Electronic Effects DeptBack in the mid 1970s a very small department of experts – who came to be called ‘Electronic Effects Operators’ had been formed – consisting of Dave Chapman, Dave Jervis and Mitch Mitchell – under the management of Bob Wright.  They were used primarily to operate the inlay and overlay desks in studio galleries during the recording of shows.  However – they realised that some effects were best achieved after the recording. Previously, any video effects would have been done in the gallery at the time of recording.  Editing was simply that – making a final cut of the show.  Such things as colour grading for video material or any kind of video post production were almost unheard of back then.  The requirement was for a room containing vision mixing and video effect facilities, some VT machines and a camera with a small area of blue screen and space to shoot models and miniatures.  The old puppet theatre was the perfect place to house it but it took a while before this happened.Over the years Dave worked on countless programmes in what eventually became the video effects department at TVCHe also worked on The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, Red Dwarf, Only Fools and Horses, and countess other programmes.Many in this group will remember Dave and have memories of working with him.Dave’s profilehttps://www.imdb.com/name/nm0422102/

This is very sad news.I read about it on this Forum pageas my bus was passing the stretch of the High Road where I would normally bump into Dave and had a chatIt was his regular shopping area and coffee refreshment place. He was always alone and slightly sad in a way.We first met at one of the Forum Meet Ups maybe 15 years ago.Like others ... I'll miss Dave.RIP my forum friend.

I have been a close friend of "BBC Dave" for many years, since he moved into his house in Fraser Street. Our very first conversation entailed him telling me was making the props for Dr Who.He suffered badly from arthritis, resulting in knee and hip replacements when quite young, and forced early retirement from the Beep.In the past 18 months he was living with the first stages of early dementia.I was shocked and sad to read just now of Dave'sg fatal fall.So long old friend

Dave Jervis was a contributor to CW4 from 2006 to 2021. 192.com has a David P Jervis listed in W4 but as I don't have an account with them I can't be more specific regarding his address.

Dave was a near neighbour of mine, and we would always have a chat when he was passing our house if I was outside. He had issues, and we had exchanged contact details if he should need  help. However, we have been away from Chiswick for some months while having work done on the house, so have not seen him recently. I know he had relations in the Midlands, and hopefully he would have been able to alert them while in hopital.
