RNLI Launches Appeal to Enable Move from Chiswick to Wandsworth
They are appealing to the public to raise an extra £300K to kit out their new base in Wandsworth. But the RNLI is the second or third richest Charity in the UK. They can easily meet this cost from the return on their investments. On 31st Dec 2004 - twenty years ago - the RNLI had investments with market value of £209 MILLIONS. These will have increased enormously since then.Yet they always go around with a begging cap?? The truth is that the RNLI finds it difficult to spend the income on their "yachtman charity" work, which is diminishing. They should diversify into helicopter rescue, which would help the RAF.
