Are we to expect a running commentary every month, now that we have a Labour (sorry, "Marxist") government? The September figure of 4.3% is within the range for the last 6 months of the Conservative administration, 4.0 to 4.4%.

Starmer will not last for the whole Parliament, almost certainly. Too many divisive and competing factions to control. End of next year after the first few by-elections are lost and the excuses wear thin probably.

What a load of labour loving coddswallop Tell the pensioners or the farmers that. Have you not listened to pensioners and farmers lately. They are not unhappy,they are outraged with fury. Have you not noticed that this labour GVMT is on its last legs with the majority.Even those who gave the vote are outraged and unhappy. Its over,unfortunately we have years before they are gone. Im not even sure starmer is going to last the duration

NI employer increases only likely to have a minimal impact on unemployment and prices.  Still it might have been better to reverse the last governments 2% cut to employee NI but they (and others) over promised before the election. Without some kind of tax increase by the end of this parliament there would be  a projected £40bn gap between government income and expenditure. This is regardless of who was in charge. What would you cut?Re pensioners: the increases in the (new) state pension last April and next April amount to nearly £1400, an inflation busting sum that more than compensates for the loss of the winter fuel allowance. Sure pensioners need it but no one can have everything. Re farmers: only a small proportion are affected and they still have massive preferential treatment compared to others. It’s been blown out of all proportion as it upsets those who buy land put a couple of horses on it and call it a farm.

They rushed into the pensioners without thought, into rising NI without thought and into the farmers without thought. They are on borrowed time already and it is going to bite the chancellor big time very fast in my view It is slowly starting to collapse and expect a reshuffle before Trump takes office.

On the back of the budget, inflation is forecast to rise, if that rises so will interest rates, look at the business pages or the share prices, increased minimum wages and Nat.ins. Has added millions of pounds to many companies, small companies are also feeling the pressure, several people I have talked to have mentioned that their problem is how to keep their staff, the extra costs cannot just be absorbed, hence inflation and redundancy ?

‘What is Marxism?’  John, at its most basic level Marxism involves the idea of a struggle by the working class to overthrow capitalism.  I don’t see any sign of this in the present government, do you?  ‘Socialism’ is a looser term but again I would say that Starmers’s government  is closer to what one nation conservatives used to believe rather than anything that died-in-the-wool Socialists would recognise or support.
