Parcel deliveries

Can anyone explain to me why expected deliveries always seem to have odd timings like 1.24 - 2.24pm.  As they cannot be precise about when the courier will get to you, why don't they say 1 - 2pm, for example?

Sometimes there are lockers or stores that parcels are delivered to (not just the ones that the item is bough from) which means that you don't have to wait in.  I like being able to walk to stores to pick up items at my leisure - but then that does depend on how big an item I have ordered!

Some car parks don't make it clear when entering them that you may need a smart phone with you to pay, my friend was driving I tend to keep awayfrom them, but she had no way of paying and had to pay £60 fine.  It needsto be clear how to make payment in this case it just said pay when you leave it was not at all clear how to pay on entering the car park.  Sorryto change the subject just think this needs addressing.

The slight hiccups with delivery times sure beats trying to find parking near shops since the Council has all but destroyed all motivation for visiting High Street shops.

Michael, The routes are worked out beforehand (after it's known what packages are expected to be on the delivery van).It's likely to be similar to what happens in Amazon warehouses where the pickers get told what to pick next and where to go. The goal is to minimise the time taken to pick all the items. I've watched on a delivery app while waiting for a parcel to arrive, the location of the delivery van and the numbered drop off points.The computer doesn't care about the time, but it can give an estimate when, if every drop off goes to plan and if the traffic is at typical levels, the package is likely to arrive.

I doubt anyone sits at a desk working all the time windows out, and a computer would have no time preferences..

I think it gives leeway giving an odd time, whereas if they said definately 1 or 2 you would be thinking why are they late, I say this because my partner does it he will put Home at 6.22 for example because not sure, it's odd but it works.

I don't know, but here's my attempt at a plausible answer.The route that a van is going to take is generated before the van has left the delivery depot, and there is a time predicted for when the van will get to the delivery point for each item. Perhaps for your delivery, the predicted time is 1.54, and you get a margin of +/- 30 minutes to allow for the van getting round the round faster or slower than predicted.
