Which is your favourite independent restaurant?

Looking to try something new in the Chiswick or Hammersmith area.

When the Irish friends hit Chiswick they like to start off at the Whistling Oyster then go prix fixe at the Trumpette OR cross to the Silver Birch where we get an amazing 20% off on the Chiswick Calendar card.

I enjoyed a cuppa and slice of cake this morning with an old friend who celebrated her 92nd birthday yesterday.I asked her how she celebrated her birthday yesterday.She said, without any prompting from me, that her daughters took her to the Silver Birch which she loved. She looked well on it.

Sushi Bar Makoto, Turnham Green Terrace,is a great lunch spot.  I had lunch there a while ago and Sophie Ellis-Bextor and her mum Janet (Blue Peter fame) sat next to me.  My wife always enjoys me dropping into conversation that "I had lunch with Sophie Ellis-Bextor the other day". ;)

I feel comfortable, actually,at The Olive Tree fish and chip restaurant next to Ravenscourt Park.It may be better known as WTF having recently been renamed.Several TV and Radio folk have been seen in there too.Years ago in W4 my favourite was the Chiswick Grill on the corner CHR/ Cranbrook road. The food was fine ... but it was the style of the waiter I remember most. He knew how to slide a plate onto your table gracefully.I've been to Sam's Waterside restaurant in Brentford recently which is a most elegant dining experience but a regular visit there would stretch my bank overdraft.

This might be interesting for food nerds and hygiene obsessives.  Following a recent BBC report on restaurants posting dishonest information on their doors I decided to look further.  I discovered that an ‘eating establishment’ rather close to my home had achieved a 0 rating! Elliott Road, I think. Unless of course they have dug an extensive tunnel from an entrance on the more fashionable Devonshire road.

Tarantella on Devonshire Road gets my vote. Tiny Italian run by fantastic people who produce delicious, fresh food.

Has Guilia been there long? I often go down Askew Road and can’t place where it is.There are some other good places on Askew Road, Sufi and Monkey Temple are often very busy, and the Momo dumplings in Monkey Temple are particularly good. I think someone has already mentioned the Thai on Askew Road … again pretty good.

Had a Sunday roast today in the Copper Cow. Really good food and at very good price. Plenty of food for the 8 of us and even an unasked for doggy bag with plenty of roast lamb.Have been there a good few times but always very friendly and great food. Thoroughly recommend it.

Sadly not many any more - 30 years ago we had Mackintosh’s, Southeys, The Chiswick, Fishworks, the South African fish place on Elliot Rd, Sam’s Brasserie, La Dordogne, Sabai Sabai, we were even fans of Texas Lone Star - altho that was part of a chain.  Wracking my brains now I can only come up with Le Vacherin, and Thai 101.

Totally agree about Potli. Recently had a splendid meal at Bronzo in the High Road.Not cheap, but you get delicious Sardinian dishes.

Hi ChrisIf you and your guests like Thai food, then Som Tam house is fantastic! It’s on the Askew Road. Plenty of free parking after 6.30pm. The interior restaurant is beautifully decorated with authentic music playing. I always go there for my birthday treat with my family.
