Chiswick Park Station

I feel Chiswick Park station is slightly unusual since we lack  safety intercoms from the  supplier of the online safety intercom systems which passengers should be able to operate on either platform by pressing a red or blue button for information or emergency.The staff however remain very helpful which is greatly appreciated.All of the network I believe have these safety buttons on every platform.Turnham Green has plenty safety buttons but Chiswick Park only has one I believe near the ground floor ticket office.I  also feel passengers would feel much safer if they knew they could easily access an emergency button on either platform  and we need to avoid a major incident occurring and not being reported quickly enough

well TFL never answers the platform intercoms anyway. Someone was trying to ring them the other day from Turnham Green, and it rang and rang for ten minutes, until a train finally arrived nd I went away.

Victoria Line, the vpman was rescued by other people on the platform, also happen in Glasgow. Who would have thought of that ever happening though.

If safety is such an obvious priority, then why don't ALL above ground  tube stations have their lights on all day even in the sunshine we are enjoying now? Try visiting Acton Town station where the lights are always on at the station end nearest central London or Ealing Broadway on the National Rail platforms past the rarely used footbridge going towards London. I suspect in many cases the staff who open up in the mornings leave them on as they have forgotten to switch them off and no more. As others have suggested, some form of light meter would solve the problem but it's probably too difficult for tfl to get their heads round. I'm actually comforted to see '' Auntie Rachel'' not giving in to little donut boy's pleas for even more money to waste as is his whim.

My car is designed to do this but the lights switch on well before they are actually needed. Light sensor technology is clever but not perfect.The issue with Chiswick Park is the shadow cast over the platform and the tracks so the times when lights are not needed may not justify the cost of new equipment. If they have installed LEDs already then the cost saving would be even less.

"..it isn't practical to switch the lights on and off according to the weather."Equipment such as light sensors could do so remotely. I think some cars have sensors that switch the lights on when it becomes dark.

Completely agree but my original point was about lights left on and wasted in the daytime. Can't believe we have to put up with our money being wasted to shine a light on a completely open platform away from any building.

need security presence on every station late at night, not only lights. Having seen CCTV of passengers pushed onto the tracks.

As I tried to explain to you, this is done for safety reasons and is a practice that is not confined to TfL or even the UK. There is a trade off between safety and cost and it isn't practical to switch the lights on and off according to the weather. If you believe the balance should be on the side of saving money, you can't justifiably whine about it while making no attempt to effect change. If your point of view had any validity then you would be adding to similar calls from others.However, given your previously expressed intemperate dislike of the Mayor, I would anticipate that if he did start switching off lights at stations you would immediately be jumping up and down about the risk to passengers. For you, any stick to beat him with will do.

It's not just confined to Chiswick Park, Acton Town, South Ealing, Ealing Common, North Ealing have all had lights on during the sunniest days of the year wasting energy and, more importantly, our money. With regard to raising the issue with tfl, why bother? I raised the matter of very hot seats on a particular bus many years ago and tfl finally replied citing a completely different bus route to the one I raised in the letter! Rubbish service starts from the top of this poor quango.

Safety for the public as opposed to cost savings should be a priority.Light reduction creating an unsafe environment in a public space is wrong and invites “wrong uns” to try and take advantage.Any person alone on a platform late at night needs reasonable access to a  safety button without having to run to the ticket office in desperation.Dimming lights in parks and all public stations should not be allowed just for environmental reasons.

Leaving on platform lights is not a practice unique to Chiswick Park or even London's transport network. Much of the platform is in shade and therefore, even during the day visibility can be poor not just for anyone with impaired vision. The lights also mean that the CCTV monitoring is more effective which you would be grateful for if you were the victim of a crime or a vulnerable person travelling alone at a less busy time.What did TfL say to you when you raised this issue with them?

Ah Chiswick Park where the platform lights are on from opening to closing time (possibly 24 hours for all we know). Doesn't anyone at tfl realise that we have a climate emergency so switch the blooming things off when the sun is shining. I'm waiting for the little donut to be be featured in the Sub Standard in front of nasty auntie Rachel with his begging bowl in hand asking for more (of our) money to pee away against the wall.

I’m glad everyone agrees.Chiswick Park is a safe station but as with all the other stations our equipment  surely should match theirs.God forbid but if some emergency  happened on  one of the platforms someone would have to run down rhe stairs to the ticket office and report it.It just seems a little odd that we are not currently in line with the other stations.

It would be sensible to have easily accessible intercom/panic buttons on each platform. If you see someone trip and fall onto the tracks you could alert someone straight away.

I have say I’ve never felt unsafe at Chiswick Park Station over the 40 years we’ve lived here, but then I guess it should have at least the same level of equipment as other stations.
