Andy Slaughter pays tribute to David Knowles

This week in parliament we had the unusual sight of a Labour MP paying tribute to a Daily Telegraph journalist. David Knowles, the producer of the Ukraine: The Latest podcast sadly died while on holiday earlier this week aged just 32. Local MP Andy Slaughter asked the House to join him in marking his passing while praising the standard of his work. As far as I am aware, David was not a local resident so I can only conclude that Mr Slaughter, like me was an avid listener to the podcast which provides brilliantly well informed daily updates on the war in Ukraine. The show was seen a global authority on the war and tributes have poured in not just from the UK but from across the globe particularly from Ukraine itself. What a sad loss of a brilliant young man.

Mary, thanks for sharing that piece of information about David. Andy Slaughter did once represent a constituency part of which was in Ealing so he may have known the family.

If you mean by promoting the Covid vaccine he reported on the overwhelming evidence for its effectiveness it is still rather a spiteful thought to talk about Karma in these circumstances. Just because his shows provided a reliable counterpoint to the disinformation you are for some reason so keen to swallow is no cause for vindictiveness.

Apparently Knowles promoted the covid vaccine 7 June 2021. Karma in action possibly ??Having said that I do quite like Andy who happens to be my new MP now the electoral border has been redrawn. I expected a Ruth Cadbury mark2 - but I have been pleasantly surprised.

Just adding to this , David was brought up in Ealing so although not a Chiswick resident was local in ways.

I'm delighted you have started listening and agree that the way his death was announcing was profoundly moving. I've been listening almost daily for over a year so David was a small but important part of my life and he will be sorely missed.The cause of death is being given as cardiac arrest at this stage but there doesn't seem to be any suggestion of foul play. Although he was on a Russian government's barred list, I doubt his profile was high enough for them to target him and they like to make it clear when they do carry out assassinations that it was them as the whole purpose is to intimidate.

Thank you for posting this.I had not heard of David Knowles until your post.Since then, I have read of and listened avidly, to him.The podcast of the 9th September is a moving tribute to how strongly others feel about his death.It is a tragedy, we have lost someone who contributed his wonderful mind  to all our lives.I hope his family & friends will eventually find comfort in how brightly he shone.
