Passenger lifts at Turnham Green Station  ?

It's embarrassing and a nuisancegoing down the staircase backwards to survive the ordeal at the Turnham Green Station ... but apparently lifts are now actively being considered.I quizzed some Station Staff this afternoon and they told me ..."surveyors had been in to check on the possibilities and that it would cost some £xx millions.Well that's a start. Perhaps exaggerate your agony in getting down those stairs and help keep the topic LIVE!

Engineering-wise, installing one lift at Gunnersbury from the bridge into the cutting, with only one platform to serve, is likely to be much easier and cheaper than installing two lifts at Turnham Green which will involve cutting through the brickwork of the embankment arches.

Chiswick Park is the least used station in the area.  The 2023 figures for entries and exits and overall rank out of 270 underground stations is:Turnham Green 4,663,306 132Gunnersbury 4,045,767 149Stamford Brook 2,134,593 211Chiswick Park 2,074,444 212Pre-Covid, Gunnersbury had more people than Turnham Green at peak times but TG more overall.Access improvements at Gunnersbury will almost certainly be linked to the redevelopment of the building and car parks into more residential use but there doesn't appear to be agreement yet on what those improvements may be.

Chiswick Park's listing makes the job a lot more difficult and the station usage might not justify a very expensive project.To my completely untrained eye, putting lifts in at Gunnersbury would be easier than at Turnham Green but there is always added complexity when two agencies (TfL and Network Rail) are involved.Turnham Green will become a much more important hub station if the Piccadilly line service is introduced so it is the logical choice in terms of the number of people with disabilities that would benefit but, as already been hinted at, these things tend to be driven by numerical targets.

This government has no interest in the elderly and she already announced this week to get prepared for cuts in ‘welfare’. The usual ‘tough decisions’ mantra. Blah blah blah! Forget tube stations - travel by bike!  There are enough unused cycle lanes.

Changes to access at Gunnersbury will be dependent on the proposed development there.They will be building over the existing car parks but there doesn't seem to be agreement yet of how much of this space gets used for access, both alongside the station and to the platform.

This is an article on it from last month that you may have missed. From what you say the feasibility study has begun.https://www.chiswickw4.com/default.asp?section=info&page=contube083.htmI'd assume they would look at which was the most doable out of Turnham Green and Gunnersbury and just deliver one for now. They should do TG first but, that's the problem with targets, they often lead to wrong choices.
