Car and van driving in cycle lane, Chiswick High Road

Anyone else see this around 14:30 this afternoon?  Didn't look like maintenance vehicles.

It’s good to see the massive increase in L plated mopeds and the like using the cycle lanes. Much better than having them dodging cars and weaving between cars on our roads. Much safer for them too. At last the cycle lanes are being put to good use rather than being devoid of traffic.

Yes there will always be reckless and selfish drivers but that’s not the point. The point is that it’s reckless, irresponsible and extremely stupid to actually ALLOW cyclists to go the ‘wrong’ way down a one way street. Quite ridiculous!

Well I think the problem with one way roads is that many drivers drive much too fast in the belief that they will face no obstacles even around corners they can't see around.  Sometimes there are also pedestrians crossing the road or stopped vehicles or pedestrian crossings with pedestrians actually in the act of...crossing. Think very hard before asking for a one way road because of these reckless and selfish drivers.

No one has since before the Second World War. ”Yes, yes, yes but most people still refer to it as Road Tax and everyone understands what it is except for a few pedants who are determined to get iffy about it. Google  “Road Tax” and it is clear that the term is widely used and accepted by all except a few snowflakes. The exemption of EVs will soon end and users of EVs will have to pay this road tax irrespective of the zero CO2 claim,  which is a good thing as diesel cars are being phased out and revenue for road tax is diminishing year on year.

Some pavements are officially marked as dual use - pedestrians and cycles.  Pedestrians need to always remember to look both ways before they cross - just as they should have learned as children.  Not only are there one-way roads where cycles are allowed to ride against the traffic BUT believe it or not cars often reverse and that can be just when they are leaving a parking space!  Don't ever walk behind a car that has lights on or a running engine asdrivers may not look before they reverse or if they do still may not see you.There are probably ways all of us could improve our chances of staying safe by being more careful and considerate.

That’s good then. If it’s being used by all two wheeled vehicles it’s put to good use and keeps them off the roads. It’s good to also see some disability vehicles using the cycle lanes.

The cycle lane was the busiest I have ever seen it over the weekend. I mean really busy!Calling it a cycle lane is now a misnomer of course. More and more it is being dominated by powered vehicles whizzing along at some speed with a lot of kinetic energy behind them.

Motorists don't pay road tax. No one has since before the Second World War. Motorists pay Vehicle Excise Duty. This is calculated based on the emissions of the vehicle in question. As bicycles do not emit CO2, they are exempt from VED (as are electric cars).

It’s not dangerous if no cycles are using it.  Most of the time cycle lanes are not used. Cyclists tend to use pavements which is illegal !!!

Tells you a few things about the standard of driving. I to 150+ km per week and if I had a pound for every time I see a driver jumping the lights, not yielding to pedestrians/other traffic at a roundabout, or not indicating... I wouldn't need to work for a living.

Yes, motorists are probably frustrated at seeing so many unused cycle lanes that they will use them wherever possible. And why not? They pay Road Tax.

I regularly have a coffee at Nero close to the TG/CHR junction .. it's rare that I don't see a vehicle enter the cycle lanes. Surprised there aren't many accidents.

Although the signage has been improved some vehicles still do go the wrong way turning right out of Turnham Green Terrace. Before changes were made it was happening all the time but is now a much rarer occurrence.

It’s inevitable. The cycle lanes are so under used that motorists are getting so p;()&d off that they will use the cycle lanes. Little chance of being prosecuted because the police aren’t interested.
