Herbie Flowers RIP

Bassist extraordinaire and occasional tuba virtuoso (was an RAF bandsman playing the tuba) has risen to join the heavenly orchestra. Born in Isleworth and a session musician on so many tracks. 0ver 500 of which charted. Best remembered though as a founding member of Sky, CCS and Blue Mink. Composed that memorable stripped-back bass line for 'Walk on the Wild Side'.  Also notable work with David Bowie, Marc Bolan and T Rex. Rest in Peace Mister Bassman.

A great memory of Herbie was at a Sky concert at the RAH.Sky were playing their socks off, The lights dimmed even further and there in isolated glory was one Herbie Flowers Esq. with a fairy-light-bedecked tuba launching into a solo introduction to 'Dance of the little fairies'. Brilliant.

I recall seeing him with Sky - a fine musician and also a very funny man. He reached the age of 86, which is good going for a rock musician !
