Putting my Purdeys away

For the first time in 50 years, when I  was caught up in the middle of a war, I am unable to go grouse shooting today, this being the "Glorious Twelfth".This is because there is a serious lack of grouse on the moor in Yorkshire where I normally go to shoot, due to very bad weather earlier in the year, and I understand that most shoots in Yorkshire and the Peak  District will have only one or two days of shoots, which is a very depressing situation for all those who enjoy eating the little beauties.

Grouse should be hung for at least a week after their demise before eating. (length depends on whether an old bird or a young one)For true gourmets their consumption on 12th August is unacceptable

Oh I’m so sorry Roger. She was a very sweet girl and adored you so much! My darling Milly also went to pet heaven last September- she was 20! I can picture her barking at any dog that wants to sit on her cloud 🐶💕

According to The Sun this morning,  so dire was the shortage of grouse yesterday that game suppliers were quoting restaurants extortionate prices for a single bird £35 this year, as opposed to £7 last year),  thus leaving them unable to honour  a tradition by which grouse shot in Yorkshire or Scotland on the morning of the Glorious Twelfth would be on their menus that night. The paper also reported that the Carlton Club,  which had advertised to its Conservative Party members a grouse dinner last night was forced to replace the promised grouse with roast canaries and budgerigars.

Hi, Georgie. I am very sorry to tell you that Susie is now sleeping on a beautiful white fluffy cloud (and God help any other dog that tries to get on it beside her).And I think about her every day.She passed away three days after the Queen died, so I lost two queens in that sad week in September.
