Ealing Council loses Victoria Hall legal challenge

Good news for residents who want to see this hall reopened for public use, though bad news for council tax payers who foot the c£680,000 legal costs. It’s likely the hotel scheme won’t go ahead now as the Victoria Hall was an integral part of the plan. On the bright side for developers Mastcraft is a pending indemnity payout of £350,000 from LBE , agreed before the plans even went to the planning committee. The Town Hall hotel scheme should never have seen the light of day - it’s estimated that lost revenues from closure of the Victoria Hall and other hireable facilities there has wiped out the supposed £2million ‘benefit’ a boutique hotel was going to bring the people of Ealing.What should concern Ealing residents more is the £400million loan brokered by Julian Bell when he was council leader to fund the authority’s development arm Broadway Living. Its business plan has been scuppered by rising costs and the abandonment of the proposed redevelopment of Perceval House into housing.Throw in the substantial overspend already this financial year and Ealing could well be the next local authority to go bust.
