Help Chiswick's Swifts
Chiswick is lucky to receive visits from Swifts each summer, truly remarkable birds. But here, as elsewhere in the UK, these birds' numbers are under pressure for a variety of reasons.A petition has been launched, as follows:"Make swift bricks compulsory in new housing to help red-listed birds""Swifts have declined by over 50% in the UK. Adult swifts, known for site-fidelity, return to the same nests. We want swift bricks to be required in all new housing, to provide homes for these birds. Surveys show these are used by red-listed swifts, house martins, starlings and house sparrows."https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/626737This petition, which closes on 30th April, currently has nearly 80,000 signatures, but needs another 20,000-odd to ensure that it will be considered for debate in Parliament, so please take a minute to sign, then pass it on.
