The argument has changed. At first the anti-car campaigners warned us, rightly, of the dangers of emissions from exhausts of ICE vehicles. Govt, car makers and people are responding by introducing cleaner engines and then EVs.The anti-car campaigners then warned us about the dangers of brake dust from the EVs - completely wrongly because EV brakes last 5-10x longer than for an ICE vehicle due to regen braking.Realising that the brake dust argument has been busted, they have moved on again to warning us about tyre particulates claiming that because EVs are heavier they will emit more tyre particulates. Yet again that argument has been busted, in this case by Quickfit (who know a bit more about tyres than most). According to Quickfit's own data tyres on EVs are lasting longer than on ICE vehicles, up to 30% longer. The reason is that the tyres for EVs are made differently to cope with the extra weight of an EV.There is one caveat to the QF data. A bad driver who is heavy on brakes and accelerator will chew through tyres faster in an EV than in an ICE vehicle.
