I use bits of C9 every day.Is it the best design ever? No, I've said it a million times and I'll say it again, a cycle lane on BOTH sides of the road would've been better. Is it better than not having a cycle lane? ABSOLUTELY YES.Will it ever take away ALL accidents? No. It can't avoid:1) Fellow cyclists riding two abreast, or not signalling, or not knowing what they're doing (plenty unfortunately).2) Pedestrians happily crossing the cycle lane without checking, or blissfully oblivious that there is a world out there (especially students plugged into their phones, it's a constant on the bit leading to Kew Bridge)3) Mums with prams throwing said pram into the street without checking (happens a lot on Bollo Lane for that matter... I just don't understand why)4) The absolute worst in my opinion: drivers of motor vehicles turning without giving right of way, checking if the road is clear, or simply not giving a toss. The latter is a Chiswick specialty, with hotspots in Stile Halls Garden/Wellesley road. I see nothing of that kind in Hounslow or Brentford, but here in Chiswick, especially if you have an SUV, then blinkers and mirrors are seemingly for losers.
