My father was in the Z Organisation, set up by Cmdr Kenneth Cohen RN as a secret unit within MI6, and was posted to Prague. Immediately after the Nazis invaded Czechoslovakia in March 1939, father was entertaining guests in his flat when the concierge rang to say the Gestapo had arrived. So he abruptly left his guests "to take an urgent letter" and holding up an envelope, ran downstairs past a gentleman in pork pie hat and long coat going up the stairs. Father had an exciting escape back to England. Some time after the war, a tin trunk mysteriously turned up at home in London with Kyril's dinner jacket and trousers in it; whether it was the Gestapo which had neatly folded these items and stored them during the occupation, I don't know, but anyway I wore them often in my youth at social events ...
