Has anybody experienced long delays in renewing a driving licence ? I completed an application at the beginning of August, it was returned as I had missed one question, this was about a week after I sent it in. I rectified the mistake and returned the form, since then I have written to enquire about progress, no response and no licence.

Civil servants at the DVLA are expected to go on strike ... Will we notice the difference?

Check whether you can get information acceptable to Car Hire Company fromhttps://www.gov.uk/view-driving-licenceIt says"You can use this service to:view your driving record, for example vehicles you can drivecheck your penalty points or disqualificationscreate a licence ‘check code’ to share your driving record with someone, for example a car hire companyThe check code will be valid for 21 days. You’ll need:your driving licence numberyour National Insurance number - find your National Insurance number if you’ve lost itthe postcode on your driving licence"certainly works for me to get a check code which can be passed n to Hire Car Company.

It’s possible that you are already logged on their system so you can not apply again????? Very frustrating

I completed the on line application, however, When I tried to send it I was told this was not possible and I must fill in the paper application !

Isn't it obvious? The DVLA has been infiltrated by the Evil Cycling Lobby, who are sabotaging every renewal application. It's also why you can't find Spray Starch in the shops these days - it's not needed for Lycra. And as for the flooding on the roads...

After all the talk of waiting 10 weeks to renew a passport and people going to Belfast or Bootle (?) to pick them up, we were surprised to get ours back in a couple of weeks.

My husband renewed his online and licence was back in 2 weeks. Our buddy renewed their passport online and again quick turnaround. My guess is that online is the most efficient method because as we know so many civil servants are working from home so few staff in offices to actually do anything. Online way to go, get help from a buddy if you find online too challenging. The driving licence online application is really easy.

I also had a three month wait. Also complicated by an eye test. There is a leaflet on line which clarifys the conditions for driving with an expired license. However if you are abroad and wish to hire a car that is no help.

Not that it's much help, but my wife just renewed hers online and the new licence card arrived within a few days. Obviouly it's a bit of a lottery. I need to renew my passport so I'm hoping for a similar speedy turn around!

Ruth Cadbury will be my next port of call. DVLA do seem to be out of control !I want to go for a short holiday , I need dialysis so I need a car to get to the clinic, no licence = no car (Sicily for a bit of sun)

John, I had the same problem last year, having still not received a replacement licence over seven months after the original notification. My situation was complicated by the fact that the DVLA insisted on my first having an eye test, which I was fine with, but then failed to instruct me where and when to have the test. In desperation, I finally wrote to my MP explaining the situation and she, or her secretary, contacted the DVLA on my behalf. I finally received my replacement licence within the next few weeks. As an organization with enormous power over people's lives, the DVLA is not fit for purpose.
